Birtavarre is the easiest gate to Halti and more. (Haltitunturi /Ráisduottarháldi -trail from Birtavarre. Summer road up to 800m.) From Birtavarre you can take daytrips to Halti.

Halti is a mountain located in the northern region of Scandinavia, straddling the border between Norway and Finland. Its summit is the highest point in Finland, although a significant portion of the mountain lies within Norwegian territory. Halti is not only renowned for its natural beauty but also for its symbolic significance in the history and culture of both countries.

To reach Halti, one of the most popular starting points is the charming village of Birtavarre, situated in Norway. Birtavarre serves as a gateway to Halti and offers a variety of options for travelers to embark on their journey to the summit. Here’s how you can get to Halti from Birtavarre:

By Car:
If you’re traveling by car, you can take the E6 highway from Tromsø or Alta to Birtavarre. The drive through northern Norway’s scenic landscapes is a treat in itself. From Birtavarre, you can follow signs or maps to the trailhead that leads you to Halti.

Hiking Trail:
Birtavarre offers a starting point for the hiking trail to Halti. The most common hiking route follows a marked path that takes you through picturesque valleys, pristine lakes, and rugged terrains. As you ascend, you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscapes. The trail is well-marked and maintained, but it’s important to be prepared for changing weather conditions and challenging terrain, especially as you approach the summit.

Accommodation:
Basecamp Birtavarre has cabins and campspaces, providing a comfortable place to stay before or after your hike to Halti. Staying in the village gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the Norwegian wilderness.

As you make your way from Birtavarre to Halti, you’ll gradually ascend in elevation and witness the landscape transform around you. The feeling of accomplishment upon reaching Halti’s summit is unparalleled, offering panoramic views that stretch across the rugged beauty of both Norway and Finland. Remember to respect the natural environment, follow trail guidelines, and be prepared with appropriate gear and supplies.

Halti is not just a physical destination; it’s a place that embodies the rich history, cultural ties, and the spirit of adventure that binds Norway and Finland. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a nature lover, or someone seeking a profound experience, the journey from Birtavarre to Halti is bound to leave an indelible mark on your memory.
